SACHIN!!! SACHIN!!

47.5 Deonarine to Tendulkar, OUT, oh its over! Tendulkar leaves! There was a brief scilence before everyone realized it was time to applaud. It was flatter delivery outside off and Tendulkar tries to cut it fine, but it bounced extra and the thick edge went quickly towards Sammy in the slip, who takes a good catch in front of his face. The silence returns as Tendulkar disappears in the pavilion. Strange eeriness at Wankhede.

I stared at the mobile screen for a while, trying to digest what had transpired. I shut my eyes tight trying to picturize his face as the entire scenario dawned upon me. I looked up at the professor, but my eyes were lost thinking about arguably the greatest sportsman there is. The lecture failed to bind together my attention (not that it was able to earlier).

By the time i started understanding cricket, Sachin had already shown his mettle. So dont blame me if i started idolizing him from the very first day. I wasn't much into technicalities but i just  knew that he was doing it right. He could never err. The sound of the cricket ball striking his bat echos in my ears as i write this. You could always put your money on him and go back and relax and have a margarita or something.

He was a great batsman; many are. But what set him a class apart was his attitude, his behavior, his cool head in every tight situation (the Australians and the Pakistanis have tried so very hard!),  acting like he had just started playing cricket even when he was light years ahead. Not one news article (not even the gossip ones) could write about his misconduct. He is a GENTLEMAN. Gentleman is in caps because that's how much i mean it. He's the i man i wish i could be. And i know the entire country shares this dream. To err is human. To forgive divine... That's fine... But to never err at all is Sachin Tendulkar.

Why did so many people cry during his farewell speech? Was it because his speech was written so damn well?? It was because with that speech Sachin had taken a leave from the green ground, it was because so many people had grown up with him that it had become almost impossible to visualize life without him. How many of us have woken up early in the morning just to watch him bat in Australia? How many of us have switched off the television as soon as he became
out? Because we expected as much from the rest of the team as a college student expects from his semester results. Sir, you have left a void that cant be filled in a million years. No Kohlis, no Rohits, no Kallises can ever replace you. For you are and will always remain our favorite. SACHINNNN SACHIN!
